Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Independent Advisors are independent members from local communities across the county. The role is to provide advice and recommendations to the Constabulary, supporting the delivery of fair, transparent and equitable police services to all communities.
Advice needs to be provided in a supportive way as a ‘Critical Friend’. In critically appraising existing and proposed police policy, procedures and practices, the role of advisors will by its very nature, sometimes be challenging.
The group of advisors, when taken as a whole should, wherever possible, reflect a wide diversity of backgrounds and views.
Independent Advisors should normally work at a tactical and strategic level and are complementary to, not a replacement for, other more local consultation methods which the constabulary undertakes.
The Chair is elected for a term of three years by members of the IAG as per an election process.
