Appeal for witnesses to serious collision this morning (Wednesday 9 September)

A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a collision on the A40 near Shipton this morning and police are appealing for witnesses.

Police were called shortly before 7am today (Wednesday 9 September) with a report that multiple vehicles had been involved in a collision.

A subsequent report was received which stated that the rider of a brown BMW R 1200 GS motorbike had collided with a grey Vauxhall Combo panel van on the carriageway between Shipton Hill and Andoversford.

The rider of a motorbike, a man aged in his 60s and from Cheltenham, was initially taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and later transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains with life threatening injuries.

The A40 outbound remains closed at the junction with the A436 Frogmill to allow a collision investigation to take place.

Motorists are reminded to avoid the area and find alternative routes which are suitable for the size of their vehicle.

Anyone who witnessed the collision but hasn't yet spoken to police or who has dashcam footage which may be relevant is asked to make contact.
