Appeal for witnesses after group of teenagers assaulted elderly man in Tewkesbury

Officers are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was assaulted by a group of teenagers in Tewkesbury on Bank Holiday Monday (31 August).

Police were called with a report that a group of teenage boys had assaulted a man in his 90s in the Priors Park area of the town.

It was reported that three teenagers on bicycles had approached the man, shouted verbal abuse and hit him on the back of the head whilst he was walking along Foresters Road onto Abbots Road between 3.20pm and 4pm.

The man was not injured but needed to use his walking stick to stop himself from falling over and was shaken by what happened.

Officers from the Tewkesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team have conducted house-to-house enquiries in the area. It is believed that the teenagers cycled from Tewkesbury Town Centre through the alleys, possibly down Belfry Drive, Despenser Road and onto Foresters Road.

Following the incident the group cycled down Abbots Road onto Queens Road and made their way to Walton Cardiff.

A number of people were in the area at the time and officers believed the occupants of two vehicles which drove past may what seen what happened.

Officers are asking these motorists to make contact as well as anyone else with information, CCTV or dashcam footage which could help with the investigation.
