Appeal after woman injured in dog attack near Nailsworth, Stroud

Police are appealing for a dog owner to come forward after an incident in Woodchester Park near Nailsworth, Stroud earlier this month.

It has been reported that at around 3pm on Wednesday 9 September a dog attacked another dog on the footpath near to the first lake.

The attacking dog had been playing fetch with its owner throwing a stick to it when it ran up the bank and bit another dog, a Labradoodle. 

The owner of the Labradoodle tried to intervene and help her dog, and then the dog bit her on the hand, which caused serious injuries.

It has been reported that the attack went on for some time and so the owner of the Labradoodle gave her dog's lead to the other owner so that she could try and control her dog.

Due to the fear and shock of the incident, the owner of the Labradoodle fled afterwards so did not get any contact details for the owner of the dog which attacked hers. 

Investigating officers are now asking for the owner of the other dog to come forward, and they are also keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened.

The dog was described as being a fit and athletic crossbreed which was probably young in age with long legs, short hair which was brindle coloured, a straight tail and possibly a broad head and pointed nose.

It might have had the name Benjy.

Its owner was described as being a woman aged in her late 30s or early 40s, had long black hair, was of a slim build and was possibly of mixed heritage. She also had a slip lead which you put over the nose and neck of a dog. 

The woman went to hospital and required surgery on her hand. Her dog was taken to the vets and sustained puncture wounds.
