A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with an assault and robbery in the Churchdown area of Gloucester yesterday evening (31 May).
Police were called to Churchdown Skatepark near Parton Road at around 9.40pm following reports that a group of around six or seven young males had assaulted a man and stolen his e-bike.
Witnesses told police that the group, who were wearing balaclavas, were armed with batons which they used to strike the victim. Another male armed with a large barbecue fork attempted to stab the victim with it.
Some of the males in the group, who were also riding e-bikes, then rode over the man as he was on the ground while another male made off on the victim’s e-bike in the direction of Staverton Flying School.
Officers conducted searches of the area for the suspects with support from multiple police units and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and located one of the males riding an e-bike that matched the description of the one that had been stolen.
Following a pursuit, a 17-year-old from Cheltenham was arrested on Edendale Road in Cheltenham on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident. He has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
The victim, who sustained minor injuries and a concussion, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to be assessed. He has since been discharged and reunited with his e-bike.
Officers have conducted CCTV enquiries in the area in a bid to identify the other males in the group and they are now asking for information from the public to assist with the investigation.
They are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may know the individuals who were involved.
