UPDATE FROM 3.45PM: the M5 northbound carriageway has now reopened following this morning’s collision.
The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 70s, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for treatment to injuries which are not deemed to be life threatening. His next of kin has been made aware.
Officers would like to thank motorists for their patience and co-operation during the closure.
ORIGINAL: Officers have closed this M5 northbound between junctions 11 and 9 following a collision this morning (Tuesday 12 May).
We were called at around 9.50am with a report of a collision involving a motorcyclist near to junction 9.
The motorcyclist is currently been assessed by paramedics after sustaining suspected serious injuries.
Emergency services remain at the scene and the closure is expected to remain in place for a number of hours with motorists asked to plan their route in advance and avoid the area.
