Police and fire officers are investigating after a woman died in a house fire in Gloucester yesterday (Wednesday 8 July).
Emergency services were called to a report of a fire on Attlebridge Way in Kingsway, at around 5.25pm yesterday.
Officers attended the scene along with crews from the fire and ambulance services.
A woman in her 40s was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with severe burns but died later that evening. Her next of kin are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.
A cordon is in place to enable investigators from Gloucestershire Police and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service to conduct their examinations once the structure is deemed safe.
Acting Detective Inspector Sophie Dawkins said: "Our thoughts are with the woman's family and with all those who have been impacted by this sad incident.
"I would like to take the time to thank the members of the public who assisted in attempting to save the woman before emergency services arrived.
"My thanks also goes to the first responders and those within the emergency services who continue their work at the scene.
“At this stage, we do not believe the death is suspicious, but enquiries are continuing to establish the cause of the fire.”
