Appeal for witnesses after two men attack victim with hammers in Tewkesbury

Police are appealing for witnesses after a report that two men assaulted another man with a hammer in Tewkesbury.

Officers are investigating after it was reported that two men had approached the victim while he was resting under a tree in The Vineyards, close to Tewkesbury Abbey, on Tuesday (14 July).

The two men then began to assault the victim, a man in his 30s, with hammers, causing injuries to his face. They then left the area on foot.

The assault happened at around 4pm and it is understood that the victim knew his attackers.

A 51-year-old man from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and has been released on police bail while enquiries are continuing.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time to come forward.
