A man has died following a two vehicle collision on the A417 in Birdlip this morning (Sunday 1 February) and officers are appealing for information.
Emergency services were called at around 9.40am with a report of a collision involving a car transporter and Honda Civic on the A417 Birdlip bypass
The driver of the Honda Civic, a man aged in his 40s and from Gloucester, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Four passengers of the car, two women and two young children, were taken to hospital in Bristol for treatment to their injuries. One woman remains in a serious condition at Southmead Hospital.
The driver of the car transporter was assessed by paramedics and did not sustain any serious injuries.
Several road closures have been put into place and are expected to remain for several hours while a collision investigation takes place.
These impacted roads are: The A417 has been closed in both directions between Cirencester and Gloucester (including the Air Balloon roundabout), the M5 junction 11a slip road, B4070 Buckholt Road junction and Twelve Bells junction.
Investigating officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has any relevant dashcam footage to get in contact.
