Witness appeal after man racially abused and punched two other men in Cheltenham

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man racially abused and assaulted two other men in Cheltenham.

It was reported that an unknown man had approached two men on Cheltenham High Street before shouting racial abuse and punching them.

The victims, who were aged in their 20s, reported sustaining minor facial injuries but did not require medical treatment.

This took place between the Sainsburys Local and Moon Under Water at around 6.20pm yesterday evening (Thursday 13 August).

Officers attended, identified and located a man nearby. He ran away from them, and after a short foot pursuit took place, the man became abusive towards police prior to his arrest.

A man in his 40s and from Cirencester was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and taken to police custody.

He was interviewed by officers and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Officers are keen to speak to anybody who may have witnessed the incident and who has not already spoken to police.

The man was described as being white, had brown hair and was wearing a dark blue t-shirt with grey shorts.
