A custody extension has been granted for a woman who was arrested in connection with the death of another woman following a house fire in Gloucester.
Detectives investigating the death of an elderly woman have been given until this evening (Monday 17 August) to continue questioning a woman in her 60s and from Gloucester.
The woman had been arrested yesterday (Sunday 16 August) on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the incident.
Emergency services were called to Elmgrove Road West in Hardwicke shortly before 4am yesterday with a report of a fire at an address.
Officers attended the scene along with crews from the fire and ambulance services.
The property was searched and a woman in her 90s was found unconscious inside.
Emergency services performed CPR but despite their best efforts the woman was pronounced dead. Her next of kin has been informed.
A cordon remains in place whilst police and fire investigators continue their enquiries at the address.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are asking anyone with information which could assist to make contact.
