Police are appealing for information after an elderly couple disturbed a burglar inside their home in Cheltenham at the weekend.
It was reported that an unknown man, who was wearing a balaclava, had forced entry to a property in the area of Naunton Park at around 4.10am on Sunday 27 October while the homeowners were asleep.
The man is believed to have searched the downstairs of the property before making his way upstairs where he was confronted by the victims.
An altercation ensued during which the man demanded the victim's handbag before grabbing a black drawstring bag.
One of the victims sustained minor injuries for which they did not seek medical attention for.
The offender exited through the front door and it is believed that he left with a men’s navy blue Rab gilet, possibly containing keys.
Scenes of Crime officers forensically examined the property after the burglary was reported. The victims were also given crime prevention advice on ways to help secure their property and deter burglars.
Enquiries have led officers to believe that the man ran from the property across Naunton Park and in the direction of Old Bath Road following the burglary.
Investigating officers are asking local residents to check CCTV cameras/doorbell footage to see if it captures anyone acting suspiciously between 4am and 4.30am on the day.
They would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage which they feel is relevant.

As the winter months approach and the nights get darker earlier officers would like to remind residents of the protective measures that can be taken to help ensure homes and outbuildings are as safe as possible.
Homeowners are advised to install a 'WIDE' combination of security devices to help protect your home, shed or garage from burglary as well as ensuring that back gates are secure.
