We are looking for individuals with exceptional communication skills and a passion for public service to become Force Control Room (FCR) Call Handlers/Radio Dispatchers within Gloucestershire Constabulary.
As a Call Handler/Radio Dispatcher, you will be part of an inclusive team of professionals delivering an excellent service to the public.
You will work in an environment which changes from minute-to-minute. No two days will be the same as you ensure that the public feel valued; helping to build confidence in the police service. You will be dealing with emergency and non-emergency contact via a variety of channels.
As a Call Handler, you will receive calls from members of the public who may be distressed and in a time critical situation. You will need to take control, gain relevant information and make dynamic decisions whilst being empathetic, compassionate and supportive.
As a Radio Dispatcher, you will be responsible for allocating resources to incidents, prioritising and risk assessing the incidents that our police officers need to attend. You will be responsible for assisting officers out in the community, providing them with updates, intelligence and directions.
You will be trained as both a Call Handler and a Radio Dispatcher, performing each role as required by the Constabulary.
Please note the shift pattern as a Call Handler/Radio Dispatcher will be working a 24/7 pattern and includes bank holidays and weekends.
When you join as a Call Handler/Radio Dispatcher, you’ll start on a Scale 4 salary of £26,106 (full time role) throughout your training period of nine weeks. Please be aware that you will not receive a shift allowance for this period.
After the successful completion of the initial training course, and once you start working the 24/7 shift pattern, you will then receive a 34.32% shift allowance in addition to your scale 4 salary. You will then need to train as a Radio Dispatcher.
Once operating in the full role of Call Handler/Radio Dispatcher, and on completion of tutorship, you will receive the Scale 5 salary plus a 34.32% shift allowance.
On average, the time to complete training for both the Call Handler and Radio Dispatcher roles will take approximately 3.5 months.

Please note that successful candidates will be required to attend their training in person at either the Sabrina Centre in Berkeley or our Headquarters at Waterwells, Quedgeley, to equip them with all of the skills they'll need for the role. Training will be full time Monday to Friday for all roles.
All shift patterns work a 24/7 rota and this includes bank holidays and weekends.
