Bank customers warned to be vigilant after thefts

Police are warning bank customers to be vigilant of being followed by thieves following a spate of thefts in the county.

Officers say the criminals are watching banks for anyone withdrawing large sums of money.

A number of cars in the St Oswald’s area of Gloucester have been broken into during recent months and cash has been stolen. It is believed the victims are being targeted after making high value cash withdrawals.

Between June and November, there have been a number of reports from victims losing large quantities of money. Thousands of pounds have been taken in the incidents.

Police are conducting plain clothes operations in the area of the offences in an attempt to identify those responsible.

Sergeant Andy Doyle, of Gloucester Neighbourhood Police Team, warned people to be vigilant when drawing out large sums of money.

He said: “I would remind everyone to be aware of what is happening around you and particularly of anybody nearby.

“If you feel like you are being followed, then pull over somewhere safe with a large number of people around and call us immediately.

“Never leave valuables, particularly large sums of money, in your car unattended.”

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have information or seen anything suspicious near to a bank.
