Teenager charged following suspected stabbing in Cirencester

A teenage boy has been charged in connection with a suspected stabbing incident in Cirencester on Sunday (15 March).

The 14-year-old from Wiltshire has been charged with wounding with intent, inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court for a first appearance later today (Tuesday 17 March).

The charges relate to in incident that took place at an address on Upper Churnside shortly after 11am on Sunday.

Two victims, a teenage girl and an adult man, both suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Ian Fletcher said: “Incidents such as this will inevitably have caused concern among people living and working in the community. I want to reassure the public that there is no ongoing risk to them.

“Officers responded quickly and were able to make a swift arrest. As a result of the work that has been put in to gather evidence, we have been able to bring about charges quickly.

“Due to the suspect’s age, we are not legally able to name him. However, he will now be brought before the courts to follow due process.

“Police officers from the Cotswold Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out reassurance patrols in the area. If anyone has any concerns, we would encourage you to speak to them.”
