Seven men have been arrested in connection with an assault and robbery in Cheltenham last Friday (13 March).
At around 2.20am, an officer who was on patrol was flagged down on College Road by a distressed man.
He reported that he had been assaulted and robbed of his phone and bank cards by a group of around five males.
Officers apprehended the suspects within twenty minutes of the initial report and were able to reunite the victim, who was from London, with his belongings.
The group were reported to have approached the man at around 1.50am by Sef’s Steakhouse on Imperial Square.
They punched him multiple times in the face and demanded he hand over his phone and wallet containing bank cards.
The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and did not require any medical treatment.
The officer immediately contacted CCTV operators with a description of the suspects, who were then located and tracked through town.
The operator was then able to guide officers from the Specialist Operations Unit to the suspects, who had split into two groups.
Two officers located four of the suspects inside an off licence and found in their possession the victim’s phone and bank cards, which officers believe were about to be used fraudulently.
They were all arrested on suspicion of assault ABH and Robbery.
More officers were guided to the remaining three suspects who were also arrested on suspicion of the same offences.
The seven males, who are all from the London area, have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
