A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with a non-stop collision in Cheltenham last night (Saturday 24 January).
Enquiries had been taking place in order to arrest the suspect, and a man aged in his 20s and from Cheltenham handed himself in to police this afternoon (Sunday).
He remains in custody for questioning.
In the early hours of this morning officers arrested four other people on suspicion of assisting an offender, and they remain in custody at this time.
Emergency services had been called at around 11pm yesterday to St Paul's Road, near to the junction with Folly Lane, following a collision involving a car and an e-scooter.
The driver of the car, which is thought to have been a white Kia, did not stop at the scene.
The e-scooter rider sustained serious injuries and he remains in Southmead Hospital.
An appeal was issued in the early hours of this morning asking the driver to come forward, and for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact police.
Following police enquiries throughout the night, a white Kia was seized for further investigative work to take place and the arrests were made.
Road closures had been put in place to allow for enquiries to be carried out at the scene, and the roads have since reopened.
