At around 3.50pm today, Wednesday 26 March, police received a report from a motorist that a man had been seen in Barton Street, Gloucester in possession of a weapon.
Officers, including armed police, were quickly dispatched to the location and a man was arrested in connection with the incident. A suspected air weapon has been seized.
Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Ash Gardner said: "We're in the early stages of an investigation and work is ongoing to establish what exactly has taken place.
"It is believed there may have been an altercation inside a shop and we're trying to identify who else may be involved and what happened.
"Some roads were closed while we've been in attendance and I'd like to thank those who live and work in the local area for their patience during this time.
"Anyone who saw what happened or who has information is asked to please provide this to us."
No injuries have been reported to police and enquiries are ongoing.
