The public may have seen officers from our Roads Policing Unit at Gloucester Services northbound and patrolling along the M5 on Wednesday.
This was part of a proactive operation with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and saw the team stop several vehicles and conduct checks on their condition.
Those stopped included:
• A car towing another car along the M5 that did not have a ratchet strap on one of the rear wheels
• Inspections of a car towing a fairground ride found that the trailer did not have a handbrake as the cables had severed. Rips were also spotted on the trailer tyres.
• Four vehicles were prohibited for being overweight and traffic offence reports were issued
• One vehicle was seized for having no tax and two other motorists were issued with tickets for tax offences
• One driver was issued with a traffic offence report for towing a trailer in lane three of the motorway
• Very positively, several motorists were driving safely and allowed to continue on their journeys
This month Gloucestershire Constabulary is joining police forces in supporting the National Police Chiefs' Council's summer road safety campaign Operation Spotlight.
