Teenage girl in life-threatening condition after collision in the Cotswolds

Officers are investigating a serious single-vehicle collision which happened in the Cotswolds yesterday (Monday 17 February).

At around 2.20am police were alerted to a collision on an unclassified road near to the village of Elkstone.

The vehicle, a white Volkswagen Polo, had left the road and collided with a tree.

A 16-year-old girl sustained serious injuries and attending police officers provided first aid while awaiting the arrival of paramedics.

Both ambulance and fire services attended and the child was taken to Southmead Hospital where she remains in a life-threatening condition.

A 17-year-old boy sustained leg injuries and a 14-year-old girl sustained hand and leg injuries and both were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 17-year-old boy from Stroud was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol, driving while unfit and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was later released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Road closures were put in place while a collision investigation happened and these have since been removed.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to make contact with police. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of the vehicle or saw it being driven prior to the collision.
