UPDATE: the M5 southbound carriageway reopened at around 6am following the earlier collision.
Two people were taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with injuries which were later deemed to be non-serious.
Officers would like to thank everyone for their patience while emergency services were in attendance.

ORIGINAL: The M5 southbound carriageway is closed following a serious collision during the early hours of this morning (Monday 9 September).
Police were called shortly after 2.40am with a report of a single vehicle collision near junction 11A.
The occupants of the car have been taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.
Emergency services remain at the scene and a closure is in place between junctions 11A and 12.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
