Police have charged a man in relation to an incident on St James’ Square, Cheltenham on Tuesday 22 October, which resulted in a police officer being injured.
Francis McCarthy, aged 18 and of Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, has been charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen.
He appeared in Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court earlier today (Thursday 24 October) where the case was sent to Gloucester Crown Court. He has been bailed to appear on Monday 2 December.
Inspector Matt Richards from the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Local Policing Team said the injured officer was now recovering.
He said: "The officer was thankfully - and luckily - not seriously injured, but has suffered pain, bruising and some soft tissue damage.
"He will take a week or two to recover fully, but he is in good spirits and thankful for the help of members of the public who came to his assistance."
