Workers in Gloucester subjected to abuse and threats at roadworks

Police are appealing for witnesses after workmen were threatened in Hucclecote, Gloucester at around 11.20pm last night (Monday 4 March).

A group of workers were at a road closure on Barnwood Road, with the junction of North Upton Lane, when they were approached by a man driving a Smart Car.

When he was told he could not pass due to the road closure, he became abusive towards the workmen before driving off.

A short time later, a group of men arrived in a convoy of cars, dressed in track suits and carrying bats, and made threats of violence to the workers. They also subjected them to racist abuse.

It is believed this incident could be linked to a report of anti-social driving in the area.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage which they believe to be relevant. The cars involved were a white Volkswagen Caddy, a silver Volkswagen Golf and a silver Audi.
