Appeal to trace passer-by who helped officers ensure welfare of man near Slimbridge

Police are asking a member of the public to come forward after he kindly loaned two jackets to a man whose welfare was at risk.

The vulnerable man was a suspected drug driver who had been driving erratically on the A38 and had stopped in a live lane of traffic close to the Slimbridge roundabout.

An off-duty police officer stopped to check the man was okay and ensure he did not get back behind the wheel before an on-duty officer arrived to assist.

The coats were then handed over by a passer-by to help keep the man warm and safe.

The suspected drug driver's health was subsequently checked over before he was taken into custody.

He has now been released under investigation pending the outcome of a blood test.

Officers would like to return the coats to the man they belonged to and pass on their thanks to him.

The incident happened at around 5.40pm last Thursday (14 March).
