Two men were arrested in the Forest of Dean last night (Tuesday 4 June) thanks to a member of the public who reported suspicious activity.
Police were called to Main Road in Alvington, Lydney shortly before 10.50pm after a person had seen two men acting suspiciously and described what they thought was a burglary taking place.
A vehicle which was believed to have been involved was spotted leaving by the caller and a partial registration number was given to help with enquiries.
Officers from the Specialist Operations and Local Policing teams attended and conducted searches in the area before the vehicle was located nearby.
Two men ran from the vehicle and were detained by officers. Several suspected stolen items were found within the car so the men were arrested in connection with the incident.
A 35-year-old man from Lydney was arrested on suspicion of dwelling burglary and being drunk in charge of a vehicle and remains in police custody.
A 40-year-old man, also from Lydney, was arrested on suspicion of dwelling burglary and has since been released from custody. He will face no further action.
Enquiries into the incident are continuing and investigating officers are asking local residents to come forward if they witnessed what happened or have any CCTV or dashcam footage which they feel may be relevant.
