Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault which happened in Gloucester city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning (9 June).
It was reported that a man punched a woman in the face, knocking her unconscious.
The incident happened on Wellington Street, on the road adjoining Eastgate Street, shortly after 1am.
The woman, aged in her 20s, was taken to hospital and she remains there for treatment.
A 23-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of assault and he has been interviewed. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or anyone who has any information which may be relevant and has not yet spoken to police.
