We all look forward to going on holiday, but want to make sure that while we are away our homes are safe from intruders. As you plan your holiday, think about the security of your home and consider some of the following precautions.

Ask your neighbour

Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property and if the driveway is empty suggest they park a car on your drive.

Avoid updating social media

Social media gives you a chance to share all the happy occasions in your life, and also where you are as you travel for days out or holidays.  And as you enjoy your holiday, post photos, comment on the weather or the local beach do you know who else is seeing your profile?

To stop the whole world knowing your house is empty because you’re on holiday, it’s recommended you adjust your privacy settings to restrict access to family or friend.

Secure your home and garden

Please read the other crime prevention pages and the leaflets in Further Information to see how your home and garden security can be improved.

Home security safety

Complete the Home Security survey and see what you could improve before you go on holiday, if you need further crime reduction advice this can be offered by appointment.
