To avoid becoming a victim of card theft:

  • Keep your card safe and don't let it out of your sight.
  • Use it with care and make sure no-one’s too close or trying to distract you at the ATM.
  • Shield the keypad when entering your Personal Identification Number (PIN).
  • Change your PIN frequently but avoid obvious numbers.
  • Never tell anyone your PIN; legal organisations wouldn't ask you for this number.
  • Keep a note of the 24-hour emergency number so you can quickly report any lost or stolen cards.
  • If you have an Android Pay app or something similar, treat your phone with the same care as your cash or card.
  • Use a protective cover for your contactless payment card.
  • And ask your bank or building society for further advice.
  • Visit getsafeonline for online shopping or other transactions.
