The Constabulary’s Crime Prevention Design Advisors (CPDA) work with each council’s planning departments, architects, builders and developers to create well-designed homes, businesses and public spaces.  Our aim is to create a safer and more secure place to live, work and play.

Although Safer Places - The Planning System and Crime Prevention was withdrawn in March 2014 it is a useful insight that combines more than 30 years of research and identifies the principles to create a positive contribution to the built environment.  The Design section of the Planning Practice Guidance offers the latest requirements for designing out crime and explains how planning should address and incorporate crime prevention techniques.

Secured by Design (SBD) is an accreditation process run by each Constabulary to promote security standards for your home and workplace.  The long term objective aims to reduce burglary and crime in the UK by using practical security features and careful design principles.

These design principles have been used to produce the Home Security Survey which you can use to assess your home or business, so how secure are you?
