This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
Due to high demand we have reluctantly had to close applications earlier than expected.
For those who did not get a chance to apply, we do offer other opportunities that allow you to experience and be involved with policing in Gloucestershire, such as our Police Cadets scheme and Ride Along scheme.
Gloucestershire Constabulary have developed a brand new Work Experience programme that offers an exciting, yet safe, interactive insight into the world of policing within the county.
Our Work Experience programme will run throughout the year starting in January 2023, initially for one week every month. We will have spaces for 168 people who are ages 14 to 15 years (year 10 students or those just about to start year 10) to join us for this opportunity. It is important for us as a Constabulary that this opportunity is open to all people of the eligible age, whether you attend a school or not.
During the week, those involved in the programme will be supported by many departments including our Dog Handlers, Response Teams, Force Control Room, Custody Suite, Mounted Section (Police Horses), Learning and Development and the National Police Air Service to name but a few.
Work experience days will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm (times may be subject to change). Those involved in the programme will need to be dropped off and collected daily from our Police Headquarters at 1 Waterwells, Quedgeley, Gloucester, GL2 2AN.
You will first need to submit an expression of interest form when the programme opens for applications.
Once you have submitted your expression of interest form, you will be sent some details about the work experience. This will include details of your allocated week and a form that must be returned to us within 4 weeks. The form will need to be signed by your parent or guardian as well as your school. If you do not attend a school, please tick the box to say that you do not attend a school instead.
If you are offered a placement, it will then be your responsibility to get your forms completed and returned in the timescale outlined above. We will not be sending any reminders.
Please note that we will hold your place for a 4 week period and if we have not received your completed form we will offer your place to another young person.
The dates listed below are the weeks we have available for work experience in 2023.
Please be aware that you will not be able to choose the week in which your work experience will take place – dates will be allocated to you upon submitting an expression of interest form and we are unfortunately unable to change these.
To take part in our Work Experience programme, you must meet the following eligbility criteria:
Gloucestershire Constabulary reserves the right to cancel any Work Experience placements if operational need becomes a priority.
We are aware that the work experience dates we offer fall outside of the usual school allocated work experience dates. Prior to the programme being approved, contact with a number of secondary schools across the county showed that the majority of schools would support their students in attending the programme if they wish to apply.
Applications for our Work Experience programme are now closed.
We do offer other opportunities that allow you to experience and be involved with policing in Gloucestershire, such as our Police Cadets scheme and Ride Along scheme.
