Detectives are investigating an assault in Barton Street, Gloucester in which a man suffered a serious knee injury.
The incident happened at about 2pm on Monday, 4 May near to the junction with Blenheim Road.
The man, who is in his twenties, was assaulted from behind by a group of unknown males who then ran off in different directions.
He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and requires surgery for his injury.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which would help the investigation is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 quoting incident 212 of 4 May.
