At around 9.30pm last night, Wednesday 22 February, police were called with a report of a casualty on the tracks near to Gloucester railway station.
Emergency services attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the man is understood to be 34-year-old Ricky Andrews from Gloucester. His next of kin is aware.
British Transport Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Police had been searching for Ricky Andrews in connection with alleged strangulation offences and an appeal to locate him had been issued yesterday.
Due to prior police contact, the Constabulary has referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
