Two officers from Stroud saved the big day for one couple last week when snow struck.

Registrars Kevin and Sarah arrived in a very snowy Gloucester at 10am on Sunday 11 December to make their way to their office in Stroud to collect legal documents to take to a wedding later that day.

PC Webb and Taylor were quick to jump to help in the snowy weather and ensure the registrars got to their wedding, and didn’t get cold feet.

Up against the clock and with snow falling Kevin and Sarah struggled to get to their office in their car. The M5 was impassable so they travelled cross country.

However, many vehicles turned back as they could not manage on the hills in the ice.

Kevin and Sarah persisted – they crawled their way through the ice to Stroud as they knew they had a happy couple and whole wedding waiting for them.

They miraculously arrived in Stroud but the snow and ice was so thick that their route to their office and maybe even the wedding venue seemed impossible. They then saw PC Sam Taylor at the bottom of Merrywalks. They flagged him down and explained their situation. PC Conor Webb was in the vicinity and was kindly able to help and they were able to get them up the hill in a 4x4.

PC Webb returned them to their car and a safer route to the wedding venue.

The registrars managed to get to the venue with their legal documents in just enough time – they carried out the legal ceremony with the couple on their happy day.

Registrar Kevin said “Once we walked into the room to carry out the ceremony and having explained to the guests that Stroud Police had come to our rescue, there were loud cheers!”

“It really was a great adventure and we were delighted to be able to perform the wedding on behalf of Gloucestershire Registration Service. Nothing was going to stop us getting to the venue on time! Thank you Stroud Police!”

The photos show PC Webb in action and a snowy Stroud.
