Yesterday evening, Friday 1 October, emergency services responded to two-vehicle road traffic collision near Coates where a car collided with a wall.
It happened around 5.30pm on the A433 and emergency services attended.
A motorist, a 73-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
A woman also remains in Southmead Hospital with serious injuries.
The road was closed for several hours while officers carried out an investigation and is now open again.
Any witnesses to the incident who have not yet spoken to officers are asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 quoting incident 341 of 1 October.
