Police are appealing for witnesses after a man assaulted a taxi driver in Gloucester last night, Monday 19 May.
The incident happened as the cab was being driven close to the Wall’s Roundabout on Barnwood Road at around 9.35pm.
It was reported that the passenger in the taxi, a black Skoda Fabia, began arguing with the driver before he grabbed him around his neck and punched him.
The driver was able to pull over and seek help from a passing motorist.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward.
As the assault took place, the horn could be heard repeatedly and the vehicle became stationary metres away from the traffic lights.
Police would like to speak to anyone who has witnessed any part of the event or who has dashcam footage which they believe to be relevant.
They are especially keen to speak to the driver or passengers of a white Citroen DS3 who entered the roundabout at the same time and left towards Corinium Avenue, and the occupants of a black Dacia Sandero that was stopped at the lights on the roundabout at the same time as the taxi.
A 62-year-old man from Gloucester has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault and non-fatal strangulation. He has been released on bail while enquiries continue.
