Appeal for witnesses to serious assault at Stroud pub

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in Stroud on Wednesday evening (12 March).

The incident happened at the Lord John pub in Russell Street at around 5.45pm.

It was reported that the victim, a man in his 30s, had been attempting to calm an argument that was happening in the venue. One of the men involved was pulled outside by the suspect, before becoming aggressive toward the victim.

When the victim tried to push him away, the suspect headbutted and punched him to the floor before stamping on his leg. He is then believed to have got in a taxi and left the scene.

He was described as being 5ft 7ins in height, with dark hair and a beard. He was wearing a black sweatshirt covered in red and white writing.

The victim suffered an injury to his head and a suspected broken ankle. He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he was kept in overnight.

Officers would now like to speak to anyone with information about the incident or who witnessed the lead up to the assault.
