Police called after man scales block of flats in Cheltenham

UPDATE: An arrest has been made following yesterday's concern for welfare incident on Brooklyn Road in Cheltenham.

 

A 32-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested last night on suspicion of assault police, violence to secure entry and criminal damage in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody at this time.

 

Officers would like to thank those who were impacted by the road closures which were put into place.

 

ORIGINAL: We are currently at the scene of a concern for welfare in Cheltenham this morning (Tuesday 29 April).

 

Emergency services and specialist officers were deployed to the scene following a report that a man had scaled a block of flats on Brooklyn Road at around 5.30am.

 

Although there is no wider threat to the community, the road has been closed and a cordon put in place to allow negotiators from the Force to speak to the man and ensure his safety.

 

Closures remain in place at the junctions of Edinburgh Place and Alstone Lane and the public is asked to avoid the area at this time.
