Police are warning the public about a scam which targeted a Stroud resident yesterday (Monday 21 November).

A woman received a phone call from somebody pretending to be from HMRC, who claimed that they were taking out a prosecution against them. The caller then said that if she wished to contact her tax advisor she should press ‘1’.

The victim then hung up the phone realising this was a scam. Anyone else who receives a similar phone call should do the same. Never provide any personal details or bank details over the phone.

Call police on 101 if you receive a suspicious scam phone call. You can also contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or by visiting
