Residents are urging the public to be vigilant after a suspicious incident in Dursley.

Two men knocked on an elderly woman’s door on Orchard Leaze offering to clean her carpet. Once inside they tried to sell the victim a hoover for £2,000. Thankfully the victim’s daughter came home and realised this was a scam and managed to get the men to leave, although they were very persistent.

They had foreign accents and left the scene in a white Audi which had a foreign registration plate.

This incident has left the victim very distressed and feeling vulnerable.

Members of the public are urged to avoid cold callers who turn up or ring unexpectedly offering to sell items or carry out repairs or work. Do not let them into your home and use a chain across the door to speak to them. If they refuse to leave, call police on 101, or 999 if it’s an emergency.
