Police are urging parents to be vigilant after a suspicious incident in Cheltenham last night (Tuesday 30 August).

A man in a silver saloon car, possibly a Vauxhall Insignia or similar model, pulled over on Henley Road between 5.30pm and 5.55pm and asked an 8-year-old girl if she would like any sweets. The girl, who was with friends, refused and the car carried on and stopped at the junction with Solway Road. A few moments later it was gone.

The man is described as white, around 30-40 years old, of large or stocky build, clean shaven with a bald head.

Officers are eager for any witnesses to come forward, particularly a man riding a bike with a dog who may have seen what happened.

Parents are also urged to review the 'Stranger Danger advice at www.gloucestershire.police.uk/staying-safe

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 418 of 30 August.
