A man is in a serious condition after a collision between a van and a pedestrian in Cheltenham.

The incident happened outside the Holiday Inn Express on Dunalley Street at the junction of Swindon Road at around 7.20am this morning(January 19). A middle-aged male pedestrian and a silver Citroen Dispatch van were in collision.

The man sustained injuries described as life-threatening and has been taken to Southmead hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

Swindon Road between Monson Avenue and Bennington Street remains closed as officers carry out a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. The road will remain closed for several hours while this is carried out.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and haven't already spoken to officers are asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 42 of January 19.
