A man is due to appear in court after being charged with controlling a prostitute for personal gain following arrests made in connection with an investigation into human trafficking.

Xinzhang Li, 45 and of no fixed abode, appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Saturday 28 October after being charged the previous day.

Li was remanded in custody and will appear at Gloucester Crown Court tomorrow, Friday 24 November.

Officers arrested two males and one female in connection with offences of prostitution and human trafficking in the Montpellier area of Cheltenham on Thursday 26 October. 

The woman was released from custody and will face no further action and two further women who were detained have since been released and all are now receiving the appropriate support.

A 36-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking offences and bailed to return to a police station on 14 January 2018 pending further enquiries.
