A 67 year old man from Fairford has died following a single vehicle road traffic collision on Hambidge Lane, an unclassified road between Lechlade and Fairford.

The collision occurred shortly before 11am when the green Land Rover Freelander left the road to its nearside, on a straight section of road, before colliding with a tree.  MoD police officers from RAF Fairford and members of the public assisted the man with first aid and CPR but despite their efforts and the attendance of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance the man was confirmed deceased shortly before midday.

Another person, believed to be the man's granddaughter, has been taken to hospital in Swindon as a precautionary measure.

The road remains closed whilst officers from the constabulary's Tri-Force collision investigation unit carry out their investigations.  The road remains closed at present but it's hoped it will reopen at around 3.30pm.

Officers would like to speak to two cyclists who were in the vicinity of the collision shortly after it happened or anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.

Please call 101 quoting incident number 131 of 29 December 2016.
