Police are appealing for anyone who stopped to help at the scene of a fatal collision near Avening today to come forward.

A Mini Cooper collided with a tree on the B4014 Avening-Tetbury road shortly before 12.30pm today (Monday 13 February) before the car caught fire.

It happened close to the Chavenage turning, several miles from Tetbury.

The driver, believed to be a 30-year-old woman from the Stroud area, sadly died at the scene. Formal identification has not yet taken place but the woman’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

Several witnesses attempted to pull the woman from the car with one man suffering minor injuries and shock in doing so.

Several other people stopped to help at the scene and officers want those people to come forward, even if they didn't see the crash itself.

The road remains closed while we continue a full collision investigation but anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn’t yet spoken to us should call 101 and quote incident 211 of 13 February.
