An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after being knocked off her mobility scooter in Cheltenham.

It happened at about 11.30 this morning (8 March) in Albion Street.

The woman was struck by a silver Volvo as she crossed the road on the scooter.

Albion Street and Winchcombe Street were closed to traffic while investigations continued. The roads have now been reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses. They are also keen to trace the driver of a gold 4x4 vehicle seen in the area at the time of the incident who did not stop at the scene, but may have seen what happened.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment. The extent of her injuries are not yet clear.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 200 of 8/3/17.
