Officers are investigating a serious assault in Gloucester in the early hours of today (Sunday 13 August).

Police were called to St Aldate Street at 2.30am after a 23-year-old man was found with stab wounds.

He was taken by ambulance to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and remains there this morning, his condition now described as serious but stable.

Police believe the assault happened in a block of flats on the street at around 2.20am and the area is cordoned off while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call 101 and quote incident 61 of 13 August.
