Professional Women's Support Association
Downloads

The Professional Women's Support Association (PWSA) launched in February 2005 with the aim of offering a network of services and advice to the 837 women employed by the force.
Before the launch, a consultation event was held for female staff, at which those attending were invited to share experiences, and views on the setting up of a support association. Presentations included reps from the British Association for Women in Policing, which received a very positive response which prompted the Constabulary to go forward with the launch of its own association. Many other police forces have similar groups for female staff as there are particular issues affecting women that are entirely different to the issues experience by many male staff. The association is fully supported by the Chief Officers Group, which is committed to promoting the 'Gender Agenda', which seeks to improve the working environment of women police employees nationally.
The aims and the objectives of the PWSA are as follows:
- To influence and contribute to decision-making processes within the Gloucestershire Constabulary
- To challenge organisational practices and policies that inhibit female staff from realising and achieving their full potential
- To develop a professional network of contacts between all colleagues, both nationally and internationally
- To facilitate the sharing and dissemination of information within the Constabulary
- To facilitate, contribute and advise on issues of concern to female and all other staff
- To raise the awareness and profile of all women in the police services
- To contribute to the continuous professional development of female and all other staff
Steering Group
The PWSA's steering group will:
- Work in partnership with relevant groups and bodies
- Promote training and education
- Promote positive action where appropriate
- Provide ongoing advice, guidance and support
The association will be managed by the Steering Group and will work on behalf of the membership and all Constabulary employees to achieve its aims.
The Steering Group consists of voluntary representatives of the PWSA subject to annual review, in order to provide development opportunities for all members.
Meetings
The Steering Group will meet on a monthly basis. Minutes will be taken at these meetings and relevant information circulated. The constitution will be reviewed annually.
