Work Experience

Work Experience with Chief ConstableGloucestershire Constabulary has recently re-introduced a work experience programme for school pupils primarily in Year 10. This programme operates during three separate weeks during the calendar year, and we can accommodate a maximum of five pupils during each week.

Our programme offers an exciting and valuable opportunity to school pupils who have an aspiration for a future career with the Gloucestershire Constabulary, either in the role of a Police Constable, Special Constable, or Police Staff employee.

The course is designed to give pupils an insight into the roles and functions of the Constabulary and some of the activities that pupils can be expected to be involved in, according to operational demands will be in the following areas;

  • The role of a Traffic police officer (training environment)
  • Officer Safety Training
  • Courts Visit
  • Visit our dog Section at Operations Centre, Bamfurlong
  • Public Order at Bamfurlong
  • Visit the Scientific Support Department
  • Missing Persons Training
  • Visit a Police Station

In order to operate a fair and open selection process, we do not accept requests for Work Experience directly from either pupils or the schools in the County. The process for applying for a place during one of our weeks is as follows;-

Our Work Experience Programme is facilitated for us by a company called Prospect Training, who are based in Quedgeley. Interested pupils should therefore send a hand written request to Kate Whereat advising her of what school you currently attend and the dates of your Work Experience and why you want to do work experience with Gloucestershire Constabulary, also what will and we gain from it?

We request that only pupils who have a genuine interest and understanding of the Police Service and are thinking of a future career with the Gloucestershire Constabulary put themselves forward to be considered for a place with us.

Prospect Training will then select pupils using selection criteria and will contact yourselves informing you of those pupils who have been successful in their application.

Unfortunately all our places for 2012 have now been filled, so any new requests will need to be for pupils wishing to attend during 2013.

Gloucestershire Constabulary is committed to engaging with young people within the County.
