Volunteers Homepage

Gloucestershire Constabulary is looking for community spirited people to help keep the county safe from harm through volunteering opportunities within the organisation.  The force already benefits from volunteers, as well as 171 Special Constables, who all give their spare time to help in the fight against crime.

A Police Support Volunteer (PSV) is defined as an individual with no police powers, who through personal choice gives time & energy to perform tasks for their local force, without expectation or receipt of compensation, except for the reimbursement of agreed out of pocket expenses.

Volunteering is based on choice so there is no obligation by the individual to carry out specific hours of working. Full training and support is given to the individuals, however they do not enter into an employment contract.

PSV roles will enhance and compliment those of paid staff, and PSVs will not be used to replace an existing staff member (including during periods of sickness or maternity/paternity leave) or prevent the employment of a new member of staff.

Independent Advisory Group - Ref 2636

Gloucestershire Constabulary is looking for new members of the Independent Advisory Group to represent the communities that we serve.

What is the Independent Advisory Group (IAG)?

The Independent Advisory Group is a group of community members from the local area in Gloucestershire.  Its role is to provide advice and make recommendations to the Constabulary in order to assist them in delivering fair and equitable services. The IAG works in partnership with the police service as a “critical friend” where they perform a role in building confidence between our communities and the police.

IAGs were first introduced following the Stephen Lawrence enquiry and the recommendations of the subsequent McPherson report.

Gloucestershire Constabulary was one of the first areas in the country to set-up a multi-agency advisory group.
