Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of Gloucestershire Constabulary. It is also a national initiative supported by the Association of Chief Police Officers. Our focus is to have safer communities within Gloucestershire in conjunction with our partners and meet the Government's overall Citizen Focus agenda. This involves the allocation of dedicated resources, intelligence led targeting of issues that matter most to the public and joint action by the police service, partner agencies and the public to address community problems.

Gloucestershire Constabulary has implemented a Neighbourhood Policing Action Plan in order to ensure that its approach to the on-going development of Neighbourhood Policing is undertaken in a meaningful and consistent way, which is focused on actions and local responsibilities.

The Constabulary operates within an Inspector Neighbourhood Area (INA) policing structure within three divisions, where services are delivered at a local level. There are seventeen INAs operating within the three policing divisions, creating a mix of urban and rural INAs where the local police inspector has responsibility for providing 24 hour policing cover. 18 Safer Community Teams (SCTs) are dedicated to working with local agencies and the community to introduce new ways of tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Based at local police stations and staffed by Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers, SCTs increase high-visibility policing in local areas with an aim to bring a reduction in such things as car crime, vandalism and burglaries as well as be a first point of contact for local residents with non emergency issues. The teams work with partner agencies to identify trouble spots in their areas and gather vital intelligence, which will allow officers to take positive action against those committing crime.
